Overview

Pharmacy First is an NHS service that enables eligible patients to receive assessment, advice, and treatment for selected common conditions directly from trained community pharmacists, reducing delays for minor-illness care.

What is Pharmacy First?

Through Pharmacy First, our pharmacists can assess defined conditions and supply NHS treatment where clinical criteria are met. If treatment is not suitable, we provide clear self-care guidance or onward referral to the right service.

Conditions commonly supported

Sore throat

Pharmacy First pathway support for eligible sore throat presentations.

Sinusitis

Assessment and treatment where sinusitis eligibility criteria are met.

Infected insect bites

Assessment for infected bites and treatment where clinically suitable.

Uncomplicated UTI (women)

Assessment for eligible women with uncomplicated urinary symptoms.

When to seek urgent care

If symptoms are severe, worsening, or you feel very unwell, contact NHS 111, your GP, or attend urgent care/A&E as appropriate.
