Gilbert & Johnson Pharmacy offers Pharmacy First sinusitis assessment for eligible patients aged 12 years and over. We review symptom severity and duration, then provide NHS-funded treatment where clinically appropriate.
What is Sinusitis?
Sinusitis is inflammation and swelling of the sinuses, often after a cold or upper respiratory infection. Many cases improve within a few weeks, but persistent or severe symptoms may need pharmacist treatment or onward referral.

Facial pain or pressure
Tenderness around cheeks, eyes, or forehead
Nasal congestion and discharge
Blocked nose with thick green or yellow mucus
Associated symptoms
Headache, reduced smell, fever, toothache, or bad breath
Persistent symptoms
Symptoms lasting over 10 days or worsening after initial improvement

Treatment is based on clinical assessment, symptom duration, and suitability under Pharmacy First.
- Corticosteroid nasal spray or drops to reduce inflammation
- Antibiotics when bacterial infection is clinically suspected

- Referral if treatment is unsuitable or symptoms are concerning
