Overview
Gilbert & Johnson Pharmacy provides Pharmacy First assessment for uncomplicated UTI symptoms in eligible non-pregnant women aged 16 to 64. We review symptoms and provide NHS-funded treatment where clinically appropriate.
About uncomplicated UTI care
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is usually caused by bacteria affecting the bladder or lower urinary tract. Common symptoms include dysuria, urgency, and frequency. Prompt assessment helps identify straightforward cases suitable for pharmacy treatment and those needing further review.

Pain or burning when passing urine
Urgency and increased urinary frequency
Lower abdominal discomfort and cloudy urine

Treatment decisions are based on symptoms, risk factors, and safety assessment.
- Pharmacist assessment of UTI symptom pattern and severity
- Antibiotic tablets/capsules when clinically appropriate
- Hydration and symptom-management advice
- Safety-net guidance for worsening symptoms
- Referral to GP or urgent care when required
Eligibility
- Non-pregnant women aged 16 to 64 under Pharmacy First UTI criteria
- Symptoms must be uncomplicated and suitable for community pharmacy management
- No severe systemic signs or suspected upper UTI complications
- Eligible under NHS Pharmacy First criteria after consultation

NHS funded
Assessment and eligible treatment are NHS funded through Pharmacy First.
When to seek urgent care
Seek urgent care if you develop fever, flank or back pain, vomiting, confusion, or feel very unwell, as this may indicate a more serious infection.
